More "Once Upon a Wednesday" art. I am having tons of fun drawing all these images. Thanks for all the fans. I really hope I can get it all written down and published sometime soon... but progress is moving slow and steady.

Decided to draw Darryn's real father, King Olin... holding his little blind baby.

Now then, back story time... (it's basically the same one from my Clothilde picture, but it'll do.)

King Olin and his wife, Clothilde, were rulers of the Western Kingdom. Clothilde was a sickly woman, and had a hard time having children. Finally though, she and her husband had sweet little Darryn. They threw a huge party in honor of their child, who was now the heir to Olin's throne.

Olin's brother, Blagden, showed up, in a very foul mood. For he was older than Olin, and had always wanted the throne for himself. (Their father favored Olin, because Blagden was reckless and unfit for kingship.) Now, he knew that Darryn would be the ruler of the Western Land one day, and was filled with jealous hate. He noticed that the baby was blind. Hoping that the boy's handicap would make him unable to rule the land, Blagden told Olin about it.

Olin didn't mind, because he knew his son would grow up to do amazing things. Blagden became enraged, and told his brother that he would regret that decision... and he left without another word.

Some time later, Blagden sicked an enormous troll on the Western Kingdom, destroying the palace, and killing Olin in the process.

The queen, fearful for her son's life, grabbed the baby and ran into the forest as fast as she could, when she saw the guards stunning it.

Knowing the troll would come after her, she left her child on the doorstep of an elderly peasant couple, and left before they had answered the door. Clothilde died in a mix of sorrow and joy; sorrow for the fact that she couldn't take care of her son, and happiness that she would be with Olin in the afterlife.

The peasant couple knew nothing of the boy's royalty. All they knew was his name, Darryn, which was embroidered on the baby's little blanket.
